Kinostart TBA 2006. Quelle: Original Poster: CLICK |

| Fearless is soon to open in theatres across in most Asian countries on either Jan 25 or 26. In the movie in which Jet Li nearly exhausted all the Eighteen Arms of Martial Arts, most of Jet Li's martial arts exchanges take place in the arena. The movie, with an initial cut amounting to around 3 hrs, was edited down to 1 hr 40 mins for theatrical release, thanks to Jet Li's insistence on tightening up the pace. In particular, a scene that was removed (or drastically reduced) that might be a killjoy is Jet Li's exciting duel with a Thai fighter. Apart from providing his lifetime worth of insights on wushu and spurring today's youths not to give up life (after seeing reports of high suicide rate in China), Fearless is a reflection on the path that Jet Li had walked on - from the aspiring youngster who aims at becoming number one, through the various ups and downs in life, to his final realisation of the purpose of wushu. Being described as Jet Li's most important movie ever, Fearless is also his labour of love. In order to achieve the most authentic martial arts sequences, Jet Li sought help from master choreographer Yuen Wo Ping, his good friend and partner. His only request to Yuen Wo Ping was to surpass the action sequences of his previous works. It gave Yuen Wo Ping quite a headache, "There are many martial arts scenes in the movie. I had to design different action according to the script. When you fight ten people, you have to show all their strengths. When fighting against one using fist, sabre, spear or sword, you have to use different measures to counter them. I had to come up with something novel for each scene. Not only must the moves be precise, they must be unique for each scene, or the audience would find them repetitive." In order to being out the essence of wushu philosophy, Yuen Wo Ping also had to consider the fighting styles of Huo Yuan Jia as he matures in thoughts. This is also another big challenge to Yuen Wo Ping, "When Jet Li discussed the script with me, he talked about the personality of the character. Huo Yuan Jia is initially a hot-blooded, competitive youth, whose blows are merciless and lethal. Eventually, after a turn of events, he begins to believe that wushu is not a means of killing. So, I had to devise the moves according to his changing personalities." In addition, Yuen Wo Ping also had to choreograph and guide the martial arts masters from around the globe. While they were without the doubt the real deal, they had little screen fighting experiences, "They all fight very well, for they're champions in their own fields. However, what was filmed lacked the movie feel. For example, when we were shooting a fist being thrown out, they weren't conscious of the camera placement, and may block the view, so you had to take care of all these little aspects. It wasn't plain sailing." Fearless will be holding its world premiere on January 20, with Ronny Yu, Jet Li, Sun Li in attendance. Yuen Wo Ping would also be making an appearance and has, in collaboration with Yuen Clan, arranged a special performance for the day. |

| FEARLESS Shrinks by 40 Minutes (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) According to newspaper The Beijing News, director Ronny Yu just reduced the length of Jet Li's Fearless from 143 minutes to 103 minutes, to speed up the pacing of the movie. The subplot with Michelle Yeoh has been deleted. In the original cut, the story of Jet Li's character, Huo Yuanjia, is told by Miss Yang, an Olympic official. In the early part of the movie, Huo Yuanjia is in exile in a Thai village. To safe a boy from being punished for stealing an ox, he is forced into a match with a local boxer, played by Somluck Kamsing, former Olympic featherweight boxing champion (1996) from Thailand. Unfortunately, the sequence was also deleted. Ronny Yu made the cut after audiences from an internal screening criticized the film for being too slow and the Olympic sub-story being too irrelevant to the main plot. Jet Li has personally apologized to Michelle Yeoh for eliminating her from the movie and she has said she could understand the reason of director Ronny Yu's decision. |

| Jet Li Says Fearless Is His Last Martial Arts Film Jet Li says the upcoming movie Fearless, the story of Chinese martial arts pioneer Huo Yuanjia, will be his last martial arts film. The 42-year-old actor told students at Fudan University that he wants to make more philosophical, family oriented movies, the Youth Daily newspaper reported Monday. (See also KFCC News: Kung Fu Star Unveils Plans to Set Up Charity for the Needy) Li said he started taking a greater interest in spiritual matters in his mid-30s, when he realized it wasn't enough to have a strong body, you had to have a strong soul. A practicing Buddhist, Li said he now divides his time between charity work and show business. He said future projects could include another collaboration with French filmmaker Luc Besson, who wrote Li's 2001 hit, Kiss of the Dragon. However, Li added, he has been in talks with more than 20 Hollywood productions and will shoot whichever one comes to fruition first.
